Common Titanfall and Origin Errors
Posted in
titanfall
Huge demand for Titanfall combined with Origin's finicky nature means that error messages regularly crop up when playing Titanfall. Joining games and finding datacenters are the biggest culprits so far.
Here I've listed some of the common errors I've seen when playing the game, particularly when joining friends games. There's also a bit of help for those using TitanfallEarly.exe to beat the release dates.
If you know of any other errors or solutions, please leave your comment and help others enjoy Titanfall too.
IndexTitanfall - "FairFight Cheat detected"This red message can appear in the lobby screen, above your name.
Respawn are enforcing anti-cheat measures and your account has been targeted. You will no longer be able to play Titanfall against other players, instead you can only play against other cheaters.
If you think you have been unfairly banned you can contact anticheat@respawn.com.
Titanfall - "Connecting...No Servers Found"After clicking "Play" you see the following cycle of messages..
- Connecting...
- Retrieving match making list
- No servers found
- Retrieving match making list
- No servers found
- Initializing
I first saw this on 25th March 2014. Problem was caused by the Microsoft Xbox Live servers being down. Seems that both PC and Xbox rely on those cloud servers so once they're down it affects all platforms.
Only solution is to wait but you can check the Xbox Live status page
here.
Titanfall - "failed to get a token from origin"This error usually appears when you start Titanfall and the game fails to find a datacenter.
First time I saw this message I was using a Korean VPN (via VPNGate). Disconnecting from that particular server and trying another VPN server stopped the error message (even in the same region of Korea). I'm guessing that "failed to get a token from origin" is probably caused by a slow internet connection which prevents Titanfall from finding relevant datacenters.
Update 12th March: The token error also appears alongside the code 503 error below. That particular error is a "server downtime" problem which affects everyone. The only solution is to wait for EA to resolve the problem.
"Disconnect: ORIGIN error retrieving player data from storage - code 503"A widespread server error which basically means the Origin servers are down for everyone. It doesn't matter which VPN (if any) you're using you won't be able to play Titanfall. The first time I saw this was on 12th March (day after launch) and it was a genuine server downtime for PC players.
When this error occurs mid game, you'll get kicked from the match. Strongly recommend you check the official EA site for status updates
here.
Friends list - Unknown game [R&D mode]Anyone with "Unknown game [R&D mode]" against their name in the friends list is using TitanfallEarly.exe. The problem is those people will not be able to join any games and increase their chance of getting banned by EA. Follow these instructions to make sure your name says "in game: TitanfallTM":
- Move Titanfall.exe from the official folder
- Put that in another folder for safe keeping
- Put the TitanfallEarly.exe in the official folder
- Rename the TitanfallEarly.exe to Titanfall.exe
- Play the game by running the exe and not launching through Origin
Origin - "lets try that again" when trying to join a friends game"Something went wrong when you tried to join that game. Give it another shot". Seems like this error appears when the friends game ends before you could join. Going back to the friends list you'll see that the Join Game option is now grayed out.
Either the connection was lost or the game lobby ended.
Titanfall - "lost connection to server""The party team is full on this server".
If you were trying to join a friends game then I'm afraid you were too slow and the lobby is now full or closed.
"(null) [a2050000]"
Solution - restart Origin and run Titanfall directly from the game directory and not from within Origin.
During game - "Retrying connection to server"This mid game error message is usually brief but at the same time highly annoying. While the game appears to freeze for you, your character is still engaged in the current session and becomes a stationary target for enemy pilots and titans.
I found that the error usually occurs either because:
- Your graphics settings are too high
- Or, your network speed dropped briefly
The first issue can be resolved by opening the graphics settings in Titanfall and dropping most settings down to the minimum, especially the texture quality. Then restart a match and see if you still get the Retrying connection to server message.
On the other side is network speed. Even a small drop in internet speed can cause the message to appear, especially susceptible on Wi-Fi networks. What worked for me was moving my PC closer to the router and hard wiring through an Ethernet cable. I never saw the Retrying connection to server message again.
Titanfall - stuck on initializingAfter clicking Play, sometimes it says "retrieving matchmaking list" then "No servers found" repeatedly. Eventually getting stuck on "Initializing". In this scenario, do NOT wait for anything because the games stuck and you'll never join a sesson.
Instead of waiting click Cancel and then click Play again. Keep clicking Cancel then Play until the message changes to attempting to join..
Origin - "online login is currently unavailable"If you're trying to play Titanfall through a Proxy (and Origin detects this) then you'll see the "online login is currently unavailable" message. If you're at school, university or other institution then you'll need to find a way to bypass the proxy or turn it off.
If you're connected over your own VPN then you need to initiate the connection using a soft VPN client via virtual network adapters. Commonly used to bybass government firewalls.
Origin - "in order to accept this request you must first install this game origin"Error appears when trying to join a friends game via invite. Usually caused by the game not being available in your region yet or not installed correctly. If you're using TitanfallEarly.exe make sure it's running in the background first before clicking the Join Game button.
Black screen or black shapes during gameA typical graphics card problem this one. See our guide to
forcing Titanfall to use GPU and get the best graphics quality from the game.
DirectX internal error when installing/pre-loadDirectX should be automatically installed with Titanfall when you pre-load or run the basic install. If you get the DirectX internal error then you need to:
- Open Origin
- Click My Games
- Right click Titanfall
- Choose Repair Game
That should do the trick. Although you can repair DirectX from the control panel it's best to repair the entire game.
