Fortnite - Play Golf, Basketball and Volleyball in Season 5

Whilst the servers are taking a hammering with the release of Season 5, those with an eagle eye have discovered that players can play Golf, Basketball and Volleyball starting in Season 5. There are collectable sports items to win for each of these sports including high tier versions of each.

It all started with an image in the mobile patch notes (see below). Titled "Toying around" the description reads "Challenge your friends to a game of golf or basketball with toys, available only in the Battle Pass". Until now we all thought that the All Terrain Kart would simply be a means of travel but it's going to come in dead handy for navigating the golf courses too.



So we know that the collectible items are referred to as "Toys". There are basketballs, golf balls and volleyballs to collect - with Epic versions also unlocked, presumably through challenges. See the image below showing some of the basketballs you can collect:



Also take a look at the datamined challenges loading screen (main image above). The screen clearly shows Brite Bomber, Rex, Cuddle Team Leader and one of the new skins driving along in golf buggies:

How do you play Golf, Basketball and Volleyball?

Like other equippable items in Fortnite, "toys" can be selected from the emote wheel. For example, take a look at the image below which shows a player selecting a basketball from his inventory:



Upon selecting said item, the ball is thrown up in the air, several meters in the distance. The actions are slightly different for the golf ball which is simply placed on the floor, ready to be hit with an appropriate object.

Where to play

Technically there is nothing stopping you from playing sports anywhere while you practice.

A good spot for basketball is in Tilted Towers which houses an urban basketball court. The new Lazy Links location, which was introduced in Season 5, is the perfect place to practice a little golf thanks to it's tailor made golf course. I'm not too sure where volleyball is played just yet.

When you play golf, your shots are recorded in the kill feed stream (bottom left hand side of the screen). An example is "Player X made a 50 m drive to hole 3". These are useful for determining your shot range and most probably important for upcoming golf challenges.

Players should note that playing these "sports" is restricted to those with the Battle Pass (the season pass for Fortnite). Playing the game for free doesn't grant you the ability to use toys or play sports. Along with the new items, the Battle Pass also grants you access to Battle Pass challenges which are separate to the free tier.
