Battlefield 3 half the frame rate on Xbox but PC version full 60 fps

battlefield 3
DICE just confirmed that the Battelfield 3 demo shown at E3 2011 was the PC version running the game at the full 60 fps. All console versions on PS3 and Xbox 360 will run at half the frame rate, so that's only 30 fps.
See the
Battlefield 3 PC gameplay video DICE explained that they're prioritising player numbers, map sizes and destruction over the frame rate and resolution on consoles. It seems clear that a low frame rate would make it easier to develop larger maps and more destructible environments because the game is only redrawn at half the speed. One of the big winners for any console game is also the multiplayer aspect. Lower frame rates would certainly make for faster online games which are more responsive and of course more enjoyable.
The full 60 fps PC version is possible thanks to the acceleration of modern video cards with built in memory of their own. Unfortunately, the Xbox 360 and to some extent the PS3, both have limited video card and graphic capabilities. It's therefore a wise choice to drop the frame rate to support the heavily marketed FrostBite 2 game engine with fully destructible environments. Just prepare for the PC version of Battlefield 3 to be far superior to the console versions in terms of graphics.
If you're a PC gamer than it's your lucky day!!
DICE have already shown their intent on making the PC version of Battlefield 3 the most luscious, graphically exquisite FPS around. They will push the boundaries to make the video hardware squeeze every juice of detail into the cinematic environments. Expect fine details, realistic textures and all round cinematic heaven!!
What about Modern Warfare 3 on consoles?
Well, the other big FPS for 2011 is of course Modern Warfare 3. And yes, it will run at a higher frame rate and it yes it will support the 1080 HD resolution and probably 3D.
If you're a console gamer, then Modern Warfare 3 might still be the best FPS to buy this year..
