Titanfall - Gooser Challenge Tips for Reaching 6th Generation

titanfall
The Gooser Challenge is a seemingly impossible requirement for leaving the 5th Generation and moving onto the 6th Generation. Side by side, the Gooser Challenge is easily the most difficult challenge in Titanfall. To help you achieve the Gooser and get to the elusive 6th Generation I've written a short strategy for getting those ejecting pilot kills.
Update: Respawn reduce Gooser Challenge to 5 KillsGooser Challenge Requirement
First of all, the exact requirement for the Gooser Challenge is:
"Kill 50 players as they eject from their Titans"In simple terms, when a Titan is doomed you need to shoot the ejecting pilot while they're in the air. They may be cloaked depending on the use of auto-eject or if the pilot has cloak as their Tactical Ability. If that's the case and you're a Titan then you can forget the kill on that occasion because you won't see them.
Some people mistakenly think that the Gooser Challenge is available from the start of the game. Whilst this is true, you must achieve the Challenge when you're 5th Generation because all Challenges are reset when you move Generations. So don't try and be clever and get the Gooser in the lower Generations because you'll only have to do it again later.
So just how are you supposed to get 50 kills from pilots ejecting? Well, it takes the appropriate weapon, anticipation and skill. Let's start with the weapon
Which weapon is best for the Gooser
You're more likely to get those pilot kills when using a Titan yourself; I mean you'll probably be the one who doomed the Titan in the first place. Taking that into consideration you want a Titan weapon that's got a fast response time and is accurate.
This takes the Plasma and Triple Threat away from the equation. That leaves us with Arc Cannon, Quad Rockets, Chaingun and 40MM Cannon. Of those four I personally believe the Chaingun is the best, especially if the gun has an upgrade. The 40MM Cannon's fire rate is too slow, Quad Rockets are also slow and the Arc Cannon whilst great against pilots takes too long to charge.
Alternatively when outside of your Titan, you can also get those kills on the back of a rodeo trick. I found this only works well with the LMG thanks to its large magazine. Other guns take too long to destroy a Titan by which time you're usually killed. You could try using the shotgun and swapping to the Wingman sidearm but then your weapons unloaded when you need it most.
When do pilots eject
Pilots only get the option to eject when their Titan is doomed. Keep an eye on the health of nearby Titans and monitor the threat against them from friendly Titans. You can predict which ones about to reach the doomed state because the bar changes to yellow with black lines.
When a Titan is doomed, keep close by but far enough away to ensure you're not caught in a nuclear explosion. Also pre-empt the situation and reload your weapon in anticipation. Once the pilot ejects, immediately look up to the sky. You'll be able to see the pilot accelerating skywards before falling back down (as long as they're not cloaked).
At this point unleash the Chaingun, concentrating your fire just below the pilots position, that way an inaccuracies will compensate as they descend.
Other method: Forcing a rodeo eject
Smart players can also force a pilot to eject by doing a rodeo. Whilst you can use the shotgun and auto pistol, the LMG is by far the most effective weapon for this trick. I know you'll need to unlock it which means getting into the high levels but it certainly makes the Gooser a lot easier.
So follow these steps:1. Rodeo a Titan2. Use the LMG to damage the Titan into the doomed state3. If you're lucky the pilot will eject and you'll eject with them4. Now it's a firefight in the skies for the kill5. Aim just below and in front of you, the pilot will be there6. Look for the Airborne kill bonus to confirm the killWhy use the LMG? Well, it'll destroy the Titan in a few seconds and still give you a decent clip to kill the pilot too. Other guns require several reloads by which point you're usually dead before the pilot ejects.
Of course, there's a very good chance that the pilot will either stay in their Titan until death or jump out early and kill you. But that's the risk you take when going for the Gooser Challenge.
Which game mode
Personally I don't have a preference but I know alot of people prefer "Last Titan Standing" because everyone's in a Titan right from the start. You get the chance to play 4 rounds but if you die during a round that's it until the next round starts.
So it's a gamble to speed things up which sometimes pays off, sometimes not.
