Call of Duty Black Ops Quick Review

Call of Duty Black Ops Quick Review

Posted in call of duty

The wait is over and Black Ops has finally hit stores worldwide! There's been a lot of speculation, lots of leaked content and many a rumour running riot. Here, we take a closer look at the game and give our review of Call of Duty Black Ops.

We assume that most of you will have heard of the Call of Duty series by now. Black Ops is the 7th offering in the series and follows the success of the Modern Warfare 2 game. The new game comprises of the usual Single player campaign mode, multiplayer (both online and offline) and additional extras such as Zombies, new modes and exchangeable COD points.

Black Ops comes packed with new features that will make this one of the best selling games of 2010 if not for years to come. TreyArch have introduced new features such as; Wager Matches, COD Points, One in the Chamber mode, Gun Game mode and Customizable attributes (to name only a few).

So is Black Ops any good?

There's been a lot of talk about the multiplayer aspect of Black Ops and this is really where the game excels. The Single player campaign is a bit dull and predictable. You feel forced to play the missions in the way that TreyArch intended, with limited freedom to move around and try other tactics. Enemies are predictable and rather than flank you or take shelter they seamlessly run at you to their death (or yours). However, the story line is not bad and the voice acting does bring the missions to life.

Putting the single player campaign aside, the multiplayer aspect of Black Ops is amazing. There's lots of new multiplayer modes including One in the Chamber, Combat Training and Gun Game. Zombies also makes a welcome return in Black Ops and the option to play split screen with your friends is excellent. COD Points add to the competitive factor - with players having the ability to gamble their points in Wager Matches and potentially buy new weapons and perks.

To sum it up

Black Ops is a really good game which is played at its best with friends or online. Don't expect too much from the Single player campaign but expect a multiplayer experience to beat all others. Gameplay is fast and absorbing, sound and graphics are realistic and lifelike and the game has a lasting factor that warrants its price tag.

Black Ops Review

Single Player Campaign

A solid experience but too predictable and linear to make it stand out. Only really worth playing to unlock Zombies.

7 / 10

Multiplayer

Lots of multiplayer modes and extensive maps makes Black Ops a truly excellent multiplayer treat.

10 / 10

Graphics

Face modelling has improved but the old engine of World at War is starting to show its age a litte.

8 / 10

Sound

Good voice acting makes Black Ops feel realistic.

9 / 10

Playability

You will come back time and time again to fight against your friends and others online.

9 / 10

Extras

Good selection of game modes and Wager Matches is a great addition. There will always be DLC so expect more to come for Black ops.
